Updated Feb 9, 2011
This meetup was originially suggested over a year ago and Serge has stoked the fire a bit to make this happen and we've got some solid interest. The date is set and Atlassian plans to host the event (please update your RSVP), providing light snacks and refreshments.
Anyone interested in speaking, please connect with Serge to get on the agenda.
Original topic:
Try to get one or more individuals with Kanban experience to present the theory and relate real world experiences, and discuss/debate its merits, including equal time for any community members who criticize departure from standard Scrum (sometimes referred to as "doing Scrum but...").
Um... I did NOT add this meetup! I posted a suggestion for a meetup on this topic over a year ago, but I did not add it, and haven't been involved in any planning for it. Maybe this is a bug with the site software (?), but please change it, if possible, for accuracy sake. Thanks. That said, I might be interested in attending this meetup if there were some info. on who is presenting and some idea of what their background/level of expertise is etc.
I could certainly present what we're doing, if there is any interest. We've been practicing Scrum for a long time, and have recently integrated Kanban. I am happy to share.
I changed the location to Microsoft - San Francisco
I removed the location. It was Microsoft - San Francisco
@Andrew: when a suggestion gets posted and people show support for it by saying "count me in" it gets announced as a meetup automatically. its a feature, I think 4 ppl need to support it for the announcement to happen. don't worry, you're not on the hook for anything!
My colleague Beth Lingard and I are Agile Project Leads and would be happy to share our experiences using both Scrum and Kanban in our integrated product development process at ModCloth.com.
Hi,
I currently work in Emeryville so I have a request: If your orgainization is located in downtown SF and you have a large meeting room to accomadate 30 people, can you find out from HR if they are willing to let us meet? We can cap the invite. If you like the idea, please run with it and let's formalize it. :-)
Cheers,
Serge
@Serge, I work at Atlassian and we might be able to accommodate 30. We're not downtown, but walking distance from 16 & Mission BART station. Ping me if you want to discuss details.
Thanks,
Ken
Hey I can get to Atlassian- sounds like the right place to meet unless there are other offers.
Atlassian is happy to host. We can fit 30 people comfortably and I'm sure we can squeeze in a few more around the edges, if necessary. We'll even provide some beverages to keep everyone refreshed.. ;)
Hi Everyone,
Ken, thats great! So, please email Ken directly to RSVP and he can keep count. Please do not show-up without RSVPing directly with Ken -- not fair to him and his orgainization. When you RSVP can you please let him know if you want to present? The topic is established -- Let him know how long and your format.
I look forward to meeting everyone!
Cheers,
Serge
All,
Serge and I just discussed logistics for the event and I have revised the meetup accordingly. A couple of updates:
* Please update the RSVP on the meetup site (not me directly)
* Please send any speaking requests to Serge to get on the agenda
We look forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks.
I'm really amazed at the level of response on this topic. I've been raising the topic of Kanban at developer groups for about 18 months to mostly blank stares (and maybe even a little hostility at the Certified ScrumMaster training course I attended last year). Definitely looking forward to this session!
Hello everyone,
Looks like we're going to have a good turnout tomorrow for this meetup. Since our available meeting space is limited, I'd like you to update your RSVP's in case you CANNOT ATTEND.
We'd like to cap the event around 50 people and this will allows others the opportunity to join. (Plus, it will let us know how much beer to get.. ;)
Serge is in charge of the agenda and I believe he's got one or two good presentations lined up.
Thanks in advance.
Ken & the Atlassians
I am so sorry, but I don't think I can make it. I really wish I could but I am not able to get out.
Here's a link to the book I mentioned, by Henrik Kniberg: "Kanban and Scrum - Making the Most of Both" (free download as PDF). Kniberg has great credibility in the Scrum community, and I recommend this as a one-hour coffee shop read to really understand what Kanban is all about, and dispell common Scrum "versus" Kanban misconceptions. http://www.infoq.com/minibooks/kanban-scrum-minibook![]()
